Work during 2011

Taku Namikawa (front row center) and a few hearty, energetic, talented and dedicated people comprised a team of volunteers that worked at cleaning up the town.

And as they were doing this, they knew that they had to cheer people onward also! So much had been lost. They started thinking about a Fireworks Festival (Hanabi Taikai) in April and hoped to have money raised and have everything organized by August, the traditional month for Obon in Japan.

They accomplished their goal last year.
And now it’s 2012 and they are still working at rebuilding and recovery. Taku returned to his studies, transferred from Santa Barbara City College to San Jose State University and contacted Japantown Business Association (JBA) for permission to be in Japantown to raise money for the Hanabi Taikai this year. The JBA is happy to be helping!
